Updates and Plans

Well, I’ve been pretty quiet lately, but I’ve been keeping busy with work and other activities. I’ve been working full-time on an ASP.Net web application (more on this later) for the last five weeks, and it’s been quite interesting, and busy. I’ve had plenty of experience with Classic ASP using VBScript in the last year, but up until I started this project, had no experience with .Net. It was suggested that I should do this project in ASP.Net, since it has more facilities with regards to working with XML, forms, and databases. It’s been quite interesting, learning and writing ASP.Net at the same time - lots of practical experience!

I’ve also got some plans for the near future, the next month or so, since things slow tend to slow down a little bit at this time of year (25 days to Christmas!).

There’s been a lot of events happening on the web lately, so I’m going to write a post soon on some of the ones I think are more relevant and explain why they have meaning for me.

What with my work with ASP.Net on my current project, I’ve learned a number of differences in how to use ASP versus ASP.Net. It would be interesting to write a few posts on how certain tasks would be done differently between the two, and their pros and cons. Plus it just might be useful to someone else later. I may even share some bits of my code that could be useful in other situations.

I’ve been doing some work on a new site design, a Christmas-y theme. I’ll try to get that up in the next week or so. It’s just something for the holiday season.

Finally, I may also write a detailed post about the project I’ve been working on, and on my experience of learning ASP.Net at the same time.

That’s it for now, expect some new posts soon!
