New camera…the Nikon D50
My previous camera, an HP Photosmart, broke on me some time ago, and caused me to be looking for a new camera. After much research, visiting several camera stores and physically examining numerous different models, and reading user reviews on the web, I finally decided on the Nikon D50, a digital SLR aimed at the prosumer market.
It actually wasn’t an easy choice, considering how the camera market has been flooded with all kinds of cameras in recent years as digital models have become less expensive. But it was made somewhat easier by the fact that I had been eyeing the D50 since it entered the market last summer, and I just needed a good reason to buy it! Plus, all the features and controls available on the camera provide a huge amount of control over how the photos turn out. And the aspect of interchangeable lenses for more flexibility in various situations was the final selling point for the camera.
All in all, I think it will take my interest in photography much further than a standard point-and-shoot would, and with the changeable lenses feature, I’ll have a usable camera and lenses for years to come.
I got the camera with the kit lens…I have read that the kit lens isn’t the best one to use, but I’ve gotten some great photos from it already - better than what I got from the previous camera! That said, I’m already finding out about other lenses that are available, and have an idea of the possibilities that are out there.
I’m shooting JPEG Normal for now, and like I said, the photos have come out well. I am aware of the capability of the camera to shoot in RAW format as well, but I’d rather learn as much as I can about the controls on the camera, to become more familiar with it, before adding another new technology to the plate. Again, even in JPEG format, photos are coming out pretty well.
I can easily recommend this camera to any photo enthusiast that is looking for a high-level camera. It may cost a pretty penny at first, but the features and flexibility are sure to pay off over the years to come!
I keep saying that photos are coming out well, even with the kit lens, even with the JPEG format…I guess I should prove it! Here are some photos I have taken with the new camera.

Congrats on the new camera, just picked myself up one of these also. I’m shooting in JPG too and they look great. Are you using max settings? I’ve got it on Large and Fine to get the best looking JPGs possible. I’ll probably only shoot RAW on some very special occassions. I know RAW gives you the chance to go back and almost take the picture again by changing white balanace and all sorts of stuff.
Have fun with the camera!

I’m using JPEG Normal, Large Size. Photos have come out fine even if not at the maximum quality. A large part of photography is capturing the images properly - allowing for lighting, movement, and so on.
Went to your website, saw your post very similar to mine…Looks like you’ll be having some fun too!
