Using MozBackup to Back up Firefox & Thunderbird Settings

I recently wrote about moving my email to Mozilla Thunderbird. There was a process involving importing my emails and settings from Outlook Express, and adjusting settings in Thunderbird. I was looking for a way to simplify the process of backing up my emails and settings in case my computer dies or I move to another computer. I found a tool called MozBackup that greatly simplifies this process.

It’s a small program you can install to your computer. You can then run it and choose to back up - or restore - settings for Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, and the Mozilla Suite.

For Firefox, you can backup your history, passwords, downloaded file lists, setting, and so on. It’s similar for Thunderbird, except you can also back up your emails as well. I don’t use the Suite, but presumably it does a combination of the two.

At the end, you receive a .pcv file, which is actually a ZIP file containing all the settings, emails, and whatever else was backed up.

So if you move to a new computer - I did recently, so this was very useful - you just need to install Firefox or Thunderbird (or even both) and use MozBackup to import all your settings, files, and emails int0 the appropriate programs. And that’s it!

This software is a real time-saver when backing up your Firefox/Thunderbird configurations, and importing them to other systems if necessary.
